The PUBLIC Sprout is our incredibly fun bike for city kids ready to hit the road on their first big kid's bike. Just like our best-selling PUBLIC V city bike, the Sprout V 16 features a classic diamond frame design with a relaxed, upright riding position.

Parents love the simple, stylish, durable design, with no cables to get tangled, and real quality bike parts that are safer and longer-lasting that anything you'll find in the toy store. We designed these bikes with our own kids in mind, with dependable construction to last through lots of rough and tumble and hand-me-downs. Naturally, we included all the great features of grown-up PUBLIC bikes, like the matching fenders and chainguard, and comfortable brown vinyl seat and grips. The single-speed rust-resistant chain and quality coaster brake are the simplest to learn, don't need much maintenance, and make stopping just as fun as going.

For kids who haven't already learned on a balance bike, we recommend teaching balancing first by leaving the pedals off and the seat low. Then after balance is mastered, add the pedals and raise the seat to start riding with confidence. But we also include optional training wheels with the 16" size, for learning the old-fashioned way.

You'll receive a partially assembled bike delivered to your door with simple instructions and tools to complete the finishing steps. And our "Love at First Ride" Guarantee means your little one will get the bike they love, no matter what.

The Little Train that Could

"This little bike is a treasure. I own a Public step-through which is why I thought of the company first when it came time to purchase a bike for both of my grandchildren. I purchased a cobalt blue and a baby pink. It came with FREE shipping, a free kickstand and also training wheels. I accessorized them with matching bells. It was relatively easy to put together and it came with the tools required. I highly recommend this sturdy, well made bike."

Beautiful kids bike

"This is a beautiful bike, very well built and my son just loves it. I wish it wasn't nearly 20 lbs as it is heavy for my 5 year old but over time it will become less of an issue. Thank you for making something elegant and elevated for kids."

Wonderful bike for my four-year old

"Beautiful, well-made bike. My son absolutely loves his first real bike and rides it every chance he gets (including to get a glass of water from the kitchen...it is so nice-looking that we don't mind having it inside our home)"

Love, Love, Love this bike

"I bought this for Christmas for my 3 yr old as his first "big boy" bike. I am more than happy with the purchase. The bike is solid, sturdy, well made and is easy to assemble. It has the same suave aura of the adult bike, and has already received positive comments from neighbors. After one day with the bike and training wheels he had the confidence to ride and note look back. Each day, and with another bike ride, his confidence, coordination, and bike riding skills grow stronger. I'm happy that the bike can growth with him, and when it comes time to upgrade him I can pass this down to my youngest. What I'm most proud of is this was not a surprise. We presented him with options and he selected this bike. I had dreams of riding along side of him on my Public V7, and am happy to be doing so now."

Q&A

Do you know the weight if the Sprout V 16?
Yes, the weight of the Sprout V 16" is roughly 19.5 lbs without training wheels attached.
Hi! Would this bike be appropriate for a 3 year old? Thank you!
That certainly depends on the 3 year-old! If your child is a little big for their age and have been using a push bike or 12-inch pedal bike then the V 16 might be appropriate. However, if this will be their first experience with a bike then it may be a little big.
