The PUBLIC Sprout is our incredibly fun new bike for city kids ready to hit the road on their first big kid's bike. Just like our best-selling PUBLIC V city bike, the Sprout V 20" features a classic diamond frame design with a relaxed, upright riding position.

Parents love the simple, stylish, durable design, with no cables to get tangled, and real quality bike parts that are safer and longer-lasting than anything you'll find in the toy store. We designed these bikes with our own kids in mind, with dependable construction to last through lots of rough and tumble and hand-me-downs. Naturally, we included all the great features of grown-up PUBLIC bikes, like the matching fenders and chainguard, and comfortable brown vinyl seats and grips. The single-speed rust-resistant chain and quality coaster brake are the simplest to learn, don't need much maintenance, and make stopping just as fun as going.

For kids who haven't already learned on a balance bike, we recommend teaching balancing first by leaving the pedals off and the seat low. Then after balance is mastered, add the pedals and raise the seat to start riding with confidence. The 20" size can accommodate training wheels (not included) and comes with a kickstand for easy parking on the playground.

You'll receive a partially assembled bike delivered to your door with simple instructions and tools to complete the finishing steps. And our "Love at First Ride" Guarantee means your little one will get the bike they love, no matter what.

Love our Public Bikes

"My son loved his first bike from Public, so when it was time to get a larger bike, he wanted the exact same one. We ordered the 20" in blue (green wasn't available) and he looks sharp riding to school! Assembly is easy and the bike is beautiful and rides smoothly."

Another perfect kid bike from Public

"This is our son's (7) second time getting a Public bike for his birthday. He got the first one when he turned 4. He rode it for three years. The second time, we are all just as pleased with the quality of the bike and his joy as he is riding it."

Very Impressed

"So used to buying cheap bikes from Target or Amazon for my children. Took a chance and ordered these even though they were more expensive than what I usually spend, they were on sale. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. I was initially impressed with how well they were packaged. Then impressed with how solid they felt being lifted out of the box. My children ate their lunches and dinners sitting on them. The retro design is perfect. So happy that I splurged and took a chance on these bikes. Now I want one for myself."

Sturdy and comfortable

"Took some convincing for my 8 year old to accept anything not pink. The color is just like the website and it’s beautiful. The seat is comfortable for her. And it’s easy to install. Overall the bike is lightweight which is great for kids."

Sprout V 20

"I am over the moon with this purchase. It’s an absolutely adorable bike, great quality even down to the kickstand and easy to assemble. My daughter loves it. With how low the seat can go and the lower cross bar in the back she will have this bike for awhile! The fenders will be perfect for keeping her backside dry on damp days."

Q&A

What height of child is this bike for? Is this considered a 20” size bike?
The V 20 is good for riders from 7-10 years of age with at least a 23” inseam.
I am trying to decide between a Sprout V20 or C20 for my 8 year old daughter to learn on (we will have to use training wheels). In the future, this would be passed on to our little guy (who is currently 4). Which one do you recommend?
The sizing and geometry will work for either child… once your son is old enough that is! The colors on the V20 are a little more gender-neutral but they would both be a lot of fun!
